The dreame Pocket is a small, foldable hair dryer that weighs 0.66 lb (about 300 g). It's designed for travel bags, gym lockers and small bathrooms, trading the bulk of a full-size dryer for a compact body and a fast, high-speed motor.
Size and folding
Dreame lists the dryer at 1.97 inches thick when folded, with overall dimensions of 2.0 x 5.7 x 7.8 inches (about 5 x 14.5 x 20 cm). The handle folds against the body, which makes it easy to slip into a bag or drawer. At 0.66 lb it's far lighter than a typical household dryer, and a light body is easier on the wrist during longer sessions.
The 110,000 RPM motor
Small dryers rely on a high-speed motor to get airflow from a compact body. Dreame says the 110,000 RPM motor dries short hair in about 40 seconds, and that this reduces excess moisture and frizz. Drying time depends on hair length, thickness and how wet it is to begin with, so treat the 40 seconds as the brand's figure for short hair.
Five settings
The dryer offers five modes: Cold, Warm, Hot, a Hot and Cold cycle, and Instant Cold Air. A hot and cold cycle alternates the temperature as you dry, while cold air is generally used to set a style once it's dry. Dreame says an NTC thermistor and a microprocessor monitor the temperature, making 300 checks per second, and keep it below 134.6°F, which is the brand's stated temperature limit for the air at the nozzle.
Nozzles
Two nozzles come with it. Dreame calls one an "unfrizz" nozzle for a sleek finish, and the other a curling nozzle for natural-looking curls. A concentrator-style nozzle focuses the airflow for smoothing, and a curl attachment is typically used with a diffuser-style motion. Check what each nozzle looks like in your box and how the manual says to fit it.
Ions
Dreame lists 300 million negative ions per cm³ and says they help seal the hair cuticle for a smoother finish. Ionic dryers are common; what you see in practice varies from person to person and with hair type.
Noise
Dreame says the dryer runs below 60 dB, thanks to a six-layer noise-reduction system. For comparison, 60 dB is often compared to normal conversation, though a small high-speed motor can sound higher-pitched than a conventional one.
Who it suits
It suits frequent travellers, people with limited storage, and anyone who wants a light dryer for short hair or quick touch-ups. If you have long, thick hair and want a lot of airflow, a compact dryer may take longer to finish the job, and a full-size dryer may be the better fit.
What to check before you buy
- Voltage and plug: check the listing and manual for the voltage and plug type for where you'll use it.
- Hair length: the 40-second figure is for short hair.
- Heat level: the stated 134.6°F limit is lower than many dryers, so think about whether it suits your styling.
- Nozzles: confirm which nozzles are included and how they attach.
- Care: check the manual on cleaning the air inlet and on folding and storage.
