The BigAlex TAI815 is a folding walking cane with two LED lights built into the handle. It adjusts in height, folds down to fit in a bag and comes with a carry bag. The lights are aimed at walking in low light and on stairs.
The handle
BigAlex describes a wide, ergonomic handle with TPR (a soft, rubber-like thermoplastic) above and below, shaped to fit the palm. A wider grip spreads pressure across the hand, which many users find more comfortable than a narrow one. Everyone's hands are different, so a handle that suits one person may not suit another.
Two LED lights
The handle has two lights pointing in different directions, one forward and one downward, controlled by a switch. The forward light shows the path ahead, and the downward one lights the ground or the next step. The lights run on two AA batteries, which are not included.
Height adjustment
The height adjusts from 31.1 to 38.2 inches (about 79 to 97 cm) using a push button and several adjusting holes. BigAlex says this suits people from about 5'1" to 6'3" tall. Rubber base
The base is made of rubber that BigAlex compares to tyre rubber, for grip and wear resistance, indoors and out. Rubber tips wear down with use, so look at the base from time to time and replace it if the tread is worn smooth.
Folding and carrying
The cane folds in a few seconds to 5.2 x 17.1 inches (about 13 x 43 cm), and a carry bag is included. It weighs about 1 lb (roughly 0.45 kg). A folding cane fits easily in a suitcase, on a plane or under a restaurant seat. Folding canes have joints, so check that the locking mechanism clicks into place fully every time you open it.
