The BabyBond BB008A is a compact electric baby swing for infants, built on an aluminium frame that folds for storage and travel. It gives a baby a gentle rocking seat with music, and it gives a parent a free pair of hands for a few minutes. It runs from a plug indoors or from batteries when you take it outside.
Frame, harness and fit
BabyBond describes the frame as strong aluminium and fits the seat with a 5-point harness belt, which holds a baby at the shoulders, hips and between the legs. The brand rates the swing for babies from birth to 12 months and up to 27 pounds (about 12 kg). Those limits matter: a baby who is heavier or who can sit up and climb has outgrown a swing like this, whatever their age.
The cushion and pillow are removable and washable, and BabyBond says the pillow adjusts to the baby's height so they don't slip down in the seat.
Five swing speeds
Many swings offer only a couple of motions. The BB008A has five swing settings, which BabyBond says give a more pronounced movement that helps a baby settle. Babies differ a lot in what calms them, so having a range to try, from slow to more lively, is the practical benefit. The brand also says the motor is very quiet, so it shouldn't wake a sleeping baby.
Music and Bluetooth
Ten preset lullabies play from the built-in speakers. With Bluetooth, you can also stream your own music or white noise from a phone or other device. Two plush toys come with the swing to give the baby something to look at.
Controls, timer and remote
A touch panel on the swing and a remote control let you change speed, music and timer without leaning over the seat. The timer offers three settings of 8, 15 and 30 minutes, after which the swing stops by itself. A set time is useful when you want a swing session to have a clear end rather than running on.
Portable and indoor/outdoor use
The swing folds down to a package of roughly 25 x 6.2 x 25.1 inches. Assembled, it measures 28 x 25 x 18.6 inches and weighs 9.4 lb (about 4.3 kg), which is light enough to move between rooms. Plug it in for indoor use, or fit batteries for outdoor use. The batteries aren't included. BabyBond says no tools are needed to set it up.
Who it suits
It suits families with a young baby who want a swing that can be stored away or taken to a relative's home, and who like the option of Bluetooth music. It is made for the first year only, so it is a short-term piece of baby gear.
What to check before you buy
- Weight and age limits: confirm your baby is within the 27 lb, 0-12 month range, and keep to the manual's guidance on use.
- Supervision: follow the manual on how long and when a baby may be left in a swing, and on sleep.
- Power: check whether you will use the plug or batteries, and buy batteries separately if needed.
- Space: check the open size of 28 x 25 x 18.6 inches against the room, and the folded size against your storage.
- Cleaning: look at how the cushion and pillow are removed and washed.
- Assembly: read the manual for harness adjustment and locking the frame open.
