The AlfaBot S2 is a cordless electric mop with two spinning pads that move the mop forward as they turn. It is meant for hard floors such as hardwood, tile and laminate, and it takes the pushing and scrubbing out of mopping. A built-in water tank and a headlight round out the design.

Dual spin heads

Two motors turn the mop pads at up to 200 revolutions per minute, according to AlfaBot. The spinning action helps lift dried-on marks as the pads move across the floor, and the rotation also nudges the mop forward. AlfaBot says this means you mostly guide it rather than push. Spin mops of this type typically work best on sealed hard floors, so follow the floor maker's care guidance for wet cleaning.

Water tank and sprayer

A 400ml tank is built into the mop, and it sprays water onto the floor as you go. That is enough for a modest area before a refill, and clean water in the tank keeps you from carrying a bucket around. Use only cleaning products that the manual allows in the tank.

Battery and runtime

The S2 has a 2600mAh, 30W lithium battery. AlfaBot says it supports at least 60 minutes of mopping and can cover up to 2,500 square feet (about 230 square metres) on a charge, with a charging time of four to five hours. Runtime in practice depends on the floor type and how long the pads spin, so treat these as the brand's rated figures.

LED headlight

A front LED shows the way in dim rooms and helps in dark corners and under beds and other furniture. It also helps you spot streaks and marks that are hard to see in flat light.

Adjustable handle and head

The handle adjusts from 37.4 to 48.4 inches (about 95 to 123 cm), so you can match it to your height and avoid stooping. The head swings 180° left to right and 90° front to back, which helps it reach under low furniture.

Weight and handling

The S2 weighs 5.3 lb (about 2.4 kg) and measures about 12.8 x 4.8 x 17.0 inches in its packed dimensions, as listed. Because it drives itself forward, AlfaBot says it can be used comfortably by children, older adults and anyone who finds a conventional mop tiring. Supervise children around any powered appliance.

Who it suits

It suits households with mostly hard floors, people who want a quick daily mop without a bucket, and anyone who finds bending and scrubbing difficult. It is less suited to carpeted homes or to floors that the maker says should not be wet-cleaned.

What to check before you buy

  • Floor types: confirm your flooring can be wet-mopped, especially unsealed wood.
  • Pad care: check how the pads are removed, washed and replaced, and whether spares are included.
  • Area size: think about whether a 400ml tank and one battery charge cover your space.
  • Charging time: four to five hours means planning ahead if you mop often.
  • Storage: note where the mop and its charger will live.
  • Cleaning solutions: use only what the manual approves.
