The XTOOL IP500 is a handheld diagnostic scan tool made for Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Ram vehicles. It goes beyond a basic code reader by reaching the vehicle's individual control modules, running bi-directional tests and performing service resets. This page covers what the features mean and what to confirm for your vehicle.
Full-system diagnostics
A basic OBD2 reader looks at engine and emissions data. XTOOL says the IP500 covers Fiat Group vehicles (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram) from 1998 to 2024 and reaches more than 30 modules, including transmission, ABS, airbag and battery systems, using manufacturer-specific protocols. The standard OBD2 functions are also there: reading and clearing codes, live data, freeze frame, vehicle information and modules present.
Live data can be shown as text or plotted in up to four graphs at the same time, which helps when you want to see how readings move together.
Bi-directional control
Bi-directional means the tool can send commands to the vehicle as well as read from it. XTOOL gives the example of checking a relay or wiring harness on a starting problem. Activating a component and watching the response often helps narrow down a fault faster than reading codes alone.
18 special functions
XTOOL lists 18 special functions, among them EPB reset, SAS and BMS calibration, headlight adjustment and injector coding. It mentions suspension calibration after a lift kit on a Wrangler and throttle matching on a Ram. These functions vary by vehicle, and the brand advises checking with its support team before buying.
FCA AutoAuth
Many 2018-and-newer Fiat Chrysler vehicles have a secure gateway that restricts access to some functions. XTOOL says the IP500 supports FCA AutoAuth, so you can connect at the OBD2 port rather than using a 12+8 bypass cable. The AutoAuth account is not included and its subscription is bought separately. XTOOL says it can also supply a 12+8 adapter on request.

Who it suits
It suits owners and independent mechanics who work on Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Ram vehicles and want more than a code reader. Wrangler owners with modified suspension may find the calibration function relevant.
What to check before you buy
- Vehicle coverage: confirm your model and year support the functions you want.
- Gateway access: if your vehicle is 2018 or newer, plan for the AutoAuth account or the 12+8 adapter.
- Skill level: resets, coding and calibration can affect how a vehicle behaves, so follow the service manual and take care.
- Charging: you need your own charger plug for the Type-C port.
- Language: only one extra language fits in memory at a time.
