The XTOOL InPlus IP616 is a tablet-style car diagnostic scanner. It plugs into a vehicle's OBD2 port and reads trouble codes, live sensor data and a set of service-reset functions. XTOOL aims it at home mechanics, enthusiasts, small garages and professionals who want more than a basic code reader.

What "all systems" diagnosis means

A basic OBD2 code reader usually covers only the engine and emissions side. An all-systems scanner can also talk to other control modules in the car. XTOOL lists the engine, transmission, body, SRS (airbags), brakes, chassis, HVAC and fuel systems among those it can reach. It can read and clear codes, show ECU information and run full OBDII diagnosis. Which modules respond depends on the vehicle, so coverage varies by make, model and year.

Live data and graphing

Live data shows what the car's sensors are reporting as the engine runs. XTOOL says the IP616 can graph eight live data PIDs at once, covering items such as oil, transmission and coolant temperature, vehicle speed, O2 sensors, engine rpm, long and short fuel trim, cylinder rates and battery voltage. Seeing several values together on one graph is useful when you are looking for a sensor that behaves oddly under load.

31+ special functions

The scanner lists more than 31 service functions, including oil reset, electronic parking brake (EPB), tyre pressure monitor (TPMS), battery management (BMS), steering angle sensor (SAS), throttle reset, injector coding and airbag reset. It also offers an ABS bleeding function, which XTOOL describes as helping with a spongy pedal or longer stopping distances on some cars. XTOOL states clearly that special services do not work on all cars, and recommends checking compatibility by VIN and function before buying.

What it does not do

XTOOL notes that the IP616 does not have bi-directional control. In practice that means it reads data and runs the listed reset routines, but does not send active test commands, such as switching a fan or a fuel pump on from the tool. Anyone who needs those tests will want a scanner that lists that capability.

Coverage, languages and updates

XTOOL says the tool covers more than 10,000 vehicles, including US, European, Asian and Australian 12V sedans, light trucks, SUVs and minivans. There are 15 languages, including English, Spanish, French and German. It supports the CAN FD protocol, which the listing says is intended for GM model-year 2020 and later vehicles. Auto VIN identifies the vehicle automatically, though XTOOL notes it does not work on every car. Updates install over Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot, and the tool can produce a diagnostic report that you can share with a customer, a friend or a dealer.

The package measures about 14.6 x 4.3 x 11.0 inches (37 x 11 x 28 cm) as shipped.

What to check before you buy

  • Your vehicle: confirm coverage and the specific reset functions you need using your VIN.
  • Voltage: it is listed for 12V vehicles only.
  • Bi-directional tests: if you need active component tests, note that this model does not offer them.
  • Updates: the title mentions lifetime updates; confirm what that covers in the current terms.
  • Wi-Fi access: updates need a network or hotspot.
  • Brake and airbag work: follow the vehicle manufacturer's service procedures, and use a qualified technician for safety systems.

The short version

  • A tablet-style OBD2 scanner with all-systems diagnosis and live data graphing.
  • 31+ service functions, including oil, EPB, TPMS, SAS, throttle and ABS bleed, depending on the vehicle.
  • No bi-directional control.
