The XTOOL D6S, model XD-D6S, is a handheld scan tool for cars and light trucks. XTOOL presents it as an upgrade of the D5S and D6. It connects to the OBD2 port, reads fault codes from many of the car's modules, shows live data and carries out a range of service resets.
Full-system scanning
A basic code reader looks mostly at the engine and emissions. A full-system scanner also reaches modules such as ABS, SRS (airbags), transmission, electronic parking brake and HVAC. XTOOL says the D6S can read and clear codes across these systems, show freeze-frame data and run a 12V battery health check. AutoVIN identifies the vehicle automatically, and a built-in trouble-code library explains codes in plain terms.
Live data can be shown as text or graphs, with up to four values graphed together. XTOOL's example is comparing long-term and short-term fuel trim against MAF sensor readings, which is useful when tracking down a fault that comes and goes.
The 30 maintenance functions
The D6S lists 30 reset and relearn services. XTOOL's examples include:
- oil reset, TPMS and tyre size reset
- electronic parking brake reset
- ABS brake bleed
- battery management (BMS) and steering angle (SAS) reset
- throttle body relearn and injector coding
- transmission adaptation and gearbox match
- AdBlue reset and clutch adaption
- coolant bleeding, power balance and crank/cam sensor relearn
- headlight, suspension, seat match and window initialization
Relearn procedures teach the car's computer the new position or state after a part is replaced or serviced. XTOOL notes that available functions vary by vehicle.
CAN FD and FCA support
The D6S supports the OBD2, EOBD and JOBD protocols, plus CAN and CAN FD, a faster protocol found on newer vehicles. It also supports FCA AutoAuth for Stellantis-group vehicles. XTOOL states that a personal AutoAuth account and an active subscription are not included.
Screen, storage and updates
The screen is 5.45 inches at 1440 x 720. Storage is 32 GB, expandable with a microSD card, and it keeps repair reports for several vehicles. The textured silicone grips are meant to help with accidental drops. It offers 23 languages, though XTOOL notes language authorization varies. XTOOL says Wi-Fi updates are free, that it covers 10,000+ models across 90+ brands, and that it comes with a two-year warranty.
Who it suits
It suits home mechanics, enthusiasts and small workshops that want to go beyond a basic code reader and do their own resets and relearns.
What to check before you buy
- Your vehicle. XTOOL asks owners to check compatibility by VIN. Functions vary by make, model and year.
- Subscriptions. FCA AutoAuth needs a separate account and subscription.
- Procedures. Brake bleeding, airbag and coding functions need the service manual. Follow it carefully.
- Voltage. It is for 12V vehicles.
- Language. Check language authorization if you need a non-default language.
- Storage. Add a microSD card if you plan to keep many reports.
The short version
- A 5.45-inch handheld full-system OBD2 scanner.
- 30 reset and relearn services, bi-directional-style diagnostics and graphed live data.
- CAN FD protocol support; FCA AutoAuth needs a separate account.
- Free Wi-Fi updates, 32 GB storage and two-year warranty, per XTOOL.
