The TOPDON ArtiDiag600 Pro (AD600 Pro) is a handheld automotive scan tool that goes beyond reading engine codes. TOPDON presents it as the upgraded version of the AD600, AD600S and AD500, running on Android. It aims at DIY owners and workshops who want to diagnose several vehicle systems and perform common maintenance resets. Here is what the listing claims and what to check.
From code reader to full-system scan
A basic OBD2 code reader only covers the engine and emissions systems. A full-system scan tool can also talk to other control modules in the car. TOPDON says earlier models were limited to four systems (engine, ABS, airbags and transmission), while the AD600 Pro adds diagnostics across more systems, including transmission, BCM (body control module), powertrain and chassis.
Nine maintenance functions
TOPDON lists nine service functions:
- ABS bleeding
- Battery matching
- Brake reset
- Oil reset
- DPF regeneration
- Throttle relearn
- Injector coding
- SAS (steering angle sensor) reset
- TPMS reset
These are the resets typically needed after jobs such as changing a battery, replacing brake pads, servicing oil or recalibrating a steering sensor. Support for each function varies by make, model and year, so check coverage for your vehicle.
Live data and codes
The tool can read and clear DTCs and monitor live data streams, showing up to four at the same time. TOPDON says you can also record data and play it back later, which helps when a fault appears only at certain speeds or temperatures. A one-tap code clearing function is also listed. Clearing a code does not repair the underlying problem.
AutoVIN and ECU identification
AutoVIN detects the vehicle identification number automatically, along with the ECU name, identifier and serial number. TOPDON says this speeds up setup and helps ensure compatibility.
FCA AutoAuth and CAN-FD
Some newer Fiat Chrysler vehicles require authorised access to certain systems. TOPDON says the tool includes FCA AutoAuth for secure access to those vehicles. It also lists CAN-FD (flexible data rate) support, a faster communications standard found in newer vehicles.
Updates and coverage
TOPDON describes lifetime updates so the tool stays current with new vehicles and features, and lists compatibility with more than 90 vehicle models. The listing is inconsistent in wording on coverage, so confirm the specific makes and years you need with the brand before relying on it.
Who it suits
It suits home mechanics who do their own maintenance and small shops needing a portable multi-system scanner. Anyone who only needs to read a check engine light may find a simpler code reader sufficient.
What to check before you buy
- Vehicle coverage: confirm your make, model, year and the systems and resets you need.
- Update terms: read what the update arrangement includes and for which regions.
- Operating skill: resets such as ABS bleeding and injector coding need care and the procedure in the service manual.
- Safety systems: follow the manufacturer's procedures for brakes and airbags, or use a qualified technician.
- What's in the box: confirm the cable and accessories supplied.
