The Povasee A40 is a portable 12V jump starter: a compact lithium battery pack with clamps that can start a vehicle with a flat battery, without a second car or jumper cables between two vehicles. It also doubles as a USB power bank and a roadside light. Here is what its specifications mean and where it fits.
What 5000A peak current means
Jump starters are usually sold by peak current, the maximum burst the pack can deliver for a moment. Povasee lists 5000A for the A40. The current an engine actually draws while cranking is lower and depends on engine size, temperature and the state of the battery. Large engines, diesels and cold mornings all need more.
Povasee says the A40 can start all gas engines and diesel engines up to 10 litres, with up to 60 jump starts on one charge. It is designed for 12V vehicles: cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, tractors, ATVs, UTVs and lawnmowers.
The RST button for deeply flat batteries
Many jump starters won't send power through the clamps unless they detect a battery on the other end, as a safeguard. When a battery is very flat, the pack may not detect it. On the A40, if the battery voltage is below 9V, pressing the RST button helps the engine restart. Follow the manual's steps exactly when using it.
Display, power bank and light
A 3-inch display shows the remaining power and the working status at a glance, so you know how much charge is left before you need it.
The A40 also works as an 88.8Wh power bank with two USB outputs, one of them Quick Charge 3.0 (5 to 12V), for charging a phone and another USB device at the same time. Watt-hours (Wh) measure stored energy: 88.8Wh is enough to recharge a typical smartphone several times, though exact figures depend on the phone and conversion losses.
The built-in 600-lumen LED light has three modes: flashlight, strobe and SOS. The strobe and SOS modes can serve as a warning beacon at the roadside.
Protections and temperature range
Povasee lists 10 protection functions, including reverse polarity, reverse charging, over-discharge, incorrect connection, short circuit, over-charging, over-current and over-heating protection, and spark resistance. Reverse polarity means the clamps are attached to the wrong battery terminals, positive to negative.
The brand gives a working temperature range of -22°F to 140°F (about -30°C to 60°C). Lithium batteries generally deliver less power in deep cold, so keeping the pack fully charged helps in winter.
In the box
The A40 comes with smart jumper cables, a USB-A to C cable for charging, a carrying case and a user manual. A wall adapter is not included, so you will need your own USB charger. The pack measures about 8.26 x 3.54 x 1.57 inches (roughly 21 x 9 x 4 cm).
It suits drivers of 12V cars, trucks and motorcycles, and owners of boats, RVs and lawnmowers who want a self-contained way to start a vehicle with a flat battery, without waiting for help.
What to check before you buy
- Your engine: confirm it is a 12V system, and check the engine size against Povasee's gas and 10-litre diesel guidance.
- Charging: you need a USB wall charger; check the manual for the recommended input.
- Storage: keep the pack charged and top it up regularly. Check the manual for storage conditions, especially if it lives in a vehicle through hot summers or cold winters.
- Instructions: read the manual's jump-start steps and the vehicle's own guidance before you need them.
- Travel: lithium packs have airline limits; check the rules before flying with it.
